I’ve been playing magic since odyssey block, and this is by far the most fun, and probably most difficult, deck I’ve ever played. There's abuse going on with every single card. Also, everything works the same in the new M10 rules, you can still cast things between first and regular strike, you don't need damage on the stack.
The basic theme is control via first strike + counter + burn. It’s fun, and it is extremely effective when played correctly. With very little on the field it can pull off stunning victories and keep your opponent constantly guessing what you’ll do next. One of the most important cards is sunforger, which can pull out the many red and white instants, including w/u + r/u counterspells.
Explanation for some of the tricky (ab)uses:
Karakas – used to bounce enemy legends for free (godly against reanimator), or save Brigid from death.
Minamo – untaps brigid for moar dmg.
Resilient wanderer – nigh-invincible, doesn't lose card advantage vs kill spells, can penetrate defenses.
Mother of runes – protection + evasion.
Brigid, hero of kinsbaile – fantastic blocker, works with legend lands. Crushes weenies and can kill other first strikers before they land a blow.
Maze of Ith - you can prevent their attacks, or use on your own attacker after 1st strike for vigilance/dmg prevention.
reconnaissance - Can be abused the same as ith.
Sunforger – Great power booster and can fetch a huge number of the following cards, even between first and regular strike, as well as StP.
Lightning bolt/helix – fetch with sunforger after 1st strike, dealing up to 11 damage before they land a blow with a single creature.
Suffocating blast + Absorb – counter with sunforger!
Dawn charm – Multi-use, it’s the fog ability that's usually best. Play it after first strike damage and all regular strike damage is negated, meaning none of your damage and all of theirs.
Shattering pulse + Allay – Buyback works with sunforger, so you only need 1 of each.
