The design of the cards has evolved greatly in the five years the MLB™ Showdown sports card game has been around, and 2004's cards represent the most graphical and stylish change yet. In the past, the chart result boxes for both pitchers and batters were in a vertical, clunky (yet lovable) box at the bottom-right corner of the cards (where it took up a lot of space). The results in the stunning 2004 set, however, run on top of green, screened lines along the bottom of the card. Managers can look up the die results on a player's card in the same way that they look up a box score.
Wizards also added a nice touch to the players' On-Base and Control numbers. Pitchers' Control numbers are set against the background of a baseball, and the batters are set against the background of home plate.
Booster packs don't include rules. You can get the rules and a playmat in a Starter Set. Each player must have an MLB Showdown team to play.
Each booster pack contains 7 random player cards and 2 strategy cards. Each booster box contains 36 packs.
